Coffee Hour Volunteers Needed! That warm cup of coffee and little sweet after worship service is such a nice thing--gets people talking, gives us a chance to catch up. It's so easy and so appreciated. Please contact Patty Sprague at 847-475-4104 or patty_sprague@yahoo.com with a Sunday date you can help out. Don't worry--we'll remind you the week before your sign-up date. We have the coffee and serving supplies, you just bring the half'n’half and the goodies, get the fixin’s perking and set up, and rinse out the pot when the party's over. We so appreciate your help! Please do help. Thanks so much.
READY, SET. GO...SELL PIZZA! Once again we have an opportunity to make money for the church and have fun doing so! We will have an all church “fun raiser” selling CHICAGO'S LEGENDARY GINO'S EAST DEEP DISH PIZZA! We will be selling four different pizzas through APRIL 20, 2008. The frozen pizzas will then be delivered to the church on SUNDAY, MAY 4th for you to pick up and then deliver to your customers. Prizes will be awarded to the family or individuals that sell the most pizza. Last year we sold 196 pizzas. Winners last year were: Emily & Nicole Connors selling 28 pizzas, Emma Lehman selling 24 pizzas, and Margaret Tinzmann 19 pizzas. Friendly competition is healthy and fun! Everyone should have a supply of these delicious pizzas in their home freezer. Let’s make this 2008 FUN RAISER the BEST ever!! Questions? Please call Barb Lee (847) 251-0007 or Babslee1400@aol.com
This morning's anthem and offertory were written by Thomas Matthews (1915 – 1999). After World War II and until 1960, Matthews served as Organist/Choirmaster at Evanston's Parish Church of St. Luke. He also served on the music faculty of Northwestern University, was Director of Music at Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, and was founding member of the North Shore Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Dr. Matthews composed over 30 published anthems of which "The Lord is
My Shepherd" is best known. His anthem "The Day of Resurrection" is dedicated to Barrett Spach who was Organ Professor at Northwestern University as well as Organist/Choirmaster at Chicago's Fourth Presbyterian Church.
Quarterly Congregational Meeting: Please plan to attend this quarter's congregational meeting to be held after worship on Sunday, April 27th. This is your opportunity to discuss matters currently before the congregation as well as anything else that’s on your mind: Programs, projects, issues, new ideas, concerns, etc. The floor is yours! Children are welcome. Childcare will not be provided.
The Sunday Afternoon Book Discussion Group will meet at 4:00 pm in the Brown Parlor on Sunday, April 13, 2008. Ann Vikner will lead the discussion for this month’s book selection The Year of Living Biblically by A. J. Jacobs. This is the story of one man’s humble quest to follow the Bible as literally as possible. We welcome all to join our discussions.
Please Volunteer for Hilda's Place!
On the first Saturday night of each month, our church is responsible for providing dinner for the 30 or so residents of Hilda's Place, a homeless shelter located in the basement of the Lake Street Church. This is a rewarding and fun activity, and much appreciated by the residents. It's a great service opportunity for a family or two or three people who might like to work together. MANY THANKS to those who have cooked and served in the past several months (if I have inadvertently omitted your name, I apologize):
October: Joan and Tom Lindsey, Sheran Fiedler
November: The Page family
December: Andy Plasz and Sharyn Julcher
January: The Sprague family
February: Laima Day and Chris Panek
March: The Clifton family
April: The Steele family
I am currently looking for volunteers for each of the coming months, beginning with MAY! Please check your calendars and contact me via email (mcfran@ameritech.net) or phone (847-332-2618) to volunteer. Thanks! Elaine Frangedakis
