ANNOUNCEMENTS
You are welcomed and seated today by Jean Herbert, Bob and Joyce Phelps, and Steve Wilson.
The lay reader this morning is Laima Day.
The greeter today is Barb Ferguson.
Thank you to Barb Ferguson for hosting today’s coffee hour.
The chancel flowers are given by Nancy Robertson in loving memory of her parents Sally and Don Campbell.
The prayers for the Call to Worship and Prayer of Approach were taken from Stages on the Way (Chicago: GIA Publications, 2000), worship resources created by the Wild Goose Worship Group of the Iona Community, Scotland.
We welcome to our pulpit today the Rev. Constance “Connie” Stewart, a minister ordained in the United Church of Christ and trained as an interim minister. She was a classmate of Pastor Dave Denoon’s, while studying at Garrett Seminary, but has no incriminating stories about him to tell. Connie has served numerous churches in the Chicago area, most recently as a visiting minister at Glencoe Union Church.
Our known homebound members include: Esther Brandenburg, Kay Clark, Jean Davies, Virginia France, Bud Goff, John Hands, Dixie Hoffman, Esther McGinnis, Irv Newgren, Dorothy Nix, Franklin and Pat Snyder, Nina Stevens and Mary Fran Symonds. Please inform the pastor or church office if we have missed anyone.
Coffee Hour Volunteers Needed! That warm cup of coffee and little sweet after worship service is such a nice thing--gets people talking, gives us a chance to catch up. But as of April, we do not have anyone signed up to help with our Sunday Coffee Hours! It's so easy and so appreciated. Please contact Patty Sprague at 847-475-4104 or patty_sprague@yahoo.com with a Sunday date you can help out. Don't worry--we'll remind you the week before your sign-up date. We have the coffee and serving supplies, you just bring the half'n’half and the goodies, get the fixin’s perking and set up, and rinse out the pot when the party's over. We so appreciate your help! Please do help. Thanks so much.
The Sunday Afternoon Book Discussion Group will meet at 4:00 pm in the Brown Parlor on Sunday, April 13, 2008. Ann Vikner will lead the discussion for this month’s book selection The Year of Living Biblically by A. J. Jacobs. This is the story of one man’s humble quest to follow the Bible as literally as possible. We welcome all to join our discussions.
READY, SET. GO...SELL PIZZA! Once again we have an opportunity to make money for the church and have fun doing so! We will have an all church “fun raiser” selling CHICAGO'S LEGENDARY GINO'S EAST DEEP DISH PIZZA! We will be selling four different pizzas from APRIL 6-20, 2008. The frozen pizzas will then be delivered to the church on SUNDAY, MAY 4th for you to pick up and then deliver to your customers. Prizes will be awarded to the family or individuals that sell the most pizza. Last year we sold 196 pizzas. Winners last year were: Emily & Nicole Connors selling 28 pizzas, Emma Lehman selling 24 pizzas, and Margaret Tinzman 19 pizzas. Friendly competition is healthy and fun! Everyone should have a supply of these delicious pizzas in their home freezer. Let’s make this 2008 FUN RAISER the BEST ever!! Questions? Please call Barb Lee (847) 251-0007 or Babslee1400@aol.com
This morning’s prelude, anthem, and postlude are all settings of the fifteenth-century French melody O Filii et Filiae. This tune was composed as the original melody for the hymn “L'aleluya du jour de Pasques” written by the fifteenth-century Franciscan monk Jean Tisserand. The text, found at Hymn 116 and 117, is most appropriate for the Second Sunday of Easter and has been frequently altered since its translation and publication by John Mason Neale in 1852. Healey Willan (1880 – 1968), Canadian composer and church musician, composed the prelude; David Sanger (b. 1947), British organist and composer, arranged the anthem; and Canadian-born Lynnwood Farnam (1885 – 1930), worked as Organist/Choirmaster in many prominent Boston and New York City churches, composed this morning's postlude.
