ANNOUNCEMENTS

You are welcomed and seated today by Jean Herbert, Bob and Joyce Phelps, and Steve Wilson.

The Pilgrim Players this morning are:  Martha Adrienne, Laima Day, Nathan Pedretti, and Pastor Dave Denoon.

Greeting you today is the Koestring family.

Thank you to the Sunday School for hosting today’s coffee hour.

Our known homebound members include:  Esther Brandenburg, Kay Clark, Jean Davies, Virginia France, Bud Goff, John Hands, Dixie Hoffman, Esther McGinnis, Irv Newgren, Dorothy Nix, Franklin and Pat Snyder and Nina Stevens.  Please inform the pastor or church office if we have missed anyone.

This morning's prelude, anthem, and offertory are selections by two important twentieth century British composers.  William Mathias (1934– 1992) was named a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) in the New Year's Honors List of 1985 due in part to his anthem "Let the People Praise Thee" which he composed for HRH Prince Charles and Diana Spencer on the occasion of their wedding in 1981.  Kenneth Leighton (1929 – 1988) is one of the most distinguished British post-war composers with over 100 compositions to his credit.

Special Music for Easter
Our festival service will feature music for brass, choir, and organ and include Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" and the famous organ "Toccata" by Widor arranged by David Lornson for brass, choir, and cymbals.  You won't want to miss this service!  Please support our Easter service in two ways: 1) Invite your neighbors and friends to our 10:00 am service on Easter morning, March 23rd, and 2) help underwrite the cost of our brass quartet with your check to First Congregational Church indicating "Easter Brass."  Thanks for your help and support

The Sunday Afternoon Book Discussion Group will meet at 4:00 pm in the Brown Parlor on Sunday, April 13, 2008.  Ann Vikner will lead the discussion for this month’s book selection World Without End by Ken Follett.  This book is about love and intrigue in Kingsbridge, the medieval English cathedral town at the center of Follett’s Pillars of the Earth.  We welcome all to enjoy discussing interesting books.

Saving the Earth  - Many of us at FCCE want to be good stewards of God’s beloved creation, our earth.  One way to maintain our garden earth is to support sustainable agriculture, farming which preserves the planet by good environmental techniques and by generating profits to people in developing countries who need the basics of life.

Buying FAIR TRADE products like coffee and environmental cleaners is a good first step.  Here are two websites/ product names which you can access.  If these items are not available in your local stores, ask them about it!

Higher Ground Coffee    highergroundroasters.com   ECOVER cleaning products at www.ecover.com or Earthshare.org   (This website lists over 400 companies that practice good environmental techniques.)   Laura Wilson - Faith and Public Issues Team
