ANNOUNCEMENTS

You are welcomed and seated today by Mark Clifton, Jean Herbert, Chris Julcher and Nick Tucker.

The lay reader this morning is Alex Doty.

The greeter today is Lacey Ogbolumani.

Thank you to Ann Tanner for hosting today’s coffee hour.

The chancel flowers are given by Julia Weertman in loving memory of her parents Louise and Torch Randall.

Music Notes– Herbert Howells (1892 – 1983) was one of the most distinctive and visionary voices in twentieth-century English music. Born near the cathedral city of Gloucester, he studied composition at the Royal College of Music under Charles Villers Stanford and became a friend of Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872 – 1958) who was also an influential British composer. Although Howells wrote orchestral and instrumental music of various kinds, it is his sacred choral music which is most often performed.

Robinson Recital today.  Please join us at 3:00 pm in the Guild Room of the Church House as welcome pianist Ian Hominick back to play a wonderful recital of music including works by Kreisler, Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt. Suggested donation for this recital is $10 and a reception will follow his program.

Sunday, March 9, 2008 is the date for the next meeting of the Sunday Afternoon Discussion Group.  We will meet at 4:00 pm in the Brown Parlor.  This month’s book is People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks.  This novel was inspired by a true story that traces the journey of a rare illuminated manuscript.  You are invited and welcome to join this informal discussion led by Glennis Lundberg.

Childcare – At the present time we do not have a caregiver for the nursery and are seeking candidates.  Please see Deb Shamlin or Laima Day if you have a candidate or have questions.  Until we hire a caregiver, and so we can offer nursery care, those interested in volunteering for a Sunday, please see Deb or Laima.  Nursery hours are from 9:30 until 11:30 for infants and toddlers up to the age of 2.

IT’S SHOWTIME at the Woman’s Club…AGAIN!

The Woman’s Club of Evanston’s annual Benefit Show is upon us.  Members of the congregation – Jennifer French, Patty Sprague and Hal Sprague – are treading the boards at the Woman’s Club (1704 Chicago Ave.) in “LOL – Gr8 Fun 4 U!”

The variety show includes song/dance parodies that reveal life from decidedly weird viewpoints, and is more fun than…well, ask anyone who’s been there before!

The production proudly supports the Ted Fund, a local organization that provides summer camp experiences to deserving children in Evanston, in partnership with the School District 65 social work team.  Each scholarship provides three consecutive years of summer camp experience for kids grades 3-6.

The Show opens at 8:00 pm Friday evening, March 7th, with performances on March 8th, 9th (6:00 pm on Sunday), 13th, 14th and 15th.  It’s a great way to spend an evening—ask a friend at Church and come on down. Tickets are going very fast, though, so don’t hesitate!

For ticket information, call Patty or Hal Sprague at 475-4104, or Jennifer French at 475-5144. Hal & Patty have a table reserved for the first Saturday, March 8 – talk to them soon if that date is good for you!
