Today’s prelude, postlude, and offertory feature the work of American composer David N. Johnson (1922 – 1987). Johnson was head of the music department of St. Olaf College, organist at Syracuse University, and organist and choir director of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Phoenix, before becoming professor of music at Arizona State University. He published approximately 400 compositions for organ and choir. The text for “The Lone, Wild Bird” is set to the American folk melody “Prospect” and is #320 in our hymnal.
