Announcements

Welcome to First Congregational Church!  We invite visitors to sign the Guest Book and join us for refreshments and fellowship after worship.  If you are visiting today with children, please join us for Sunday School beginning after Disciple Dialogue with a recessional by the children to our Church House, three doors away.  We also have an infant room, with a changing table, crib and comfortable rocker on the lower level.  If you need those facilities during worship, an usher will be happy to escort you.

You are welcomed and seated today by the Middle School class, Patty Sprague, Nick Tucker and Cherie Weil.

The lay reader today is Bernice Valantinas.

The greeters today are Patty Sprague and son Sam Sprague.

The Thanksgiving arrangement in the Chancel is given in loving memory of Marian Erickson.

The Chancel Choir welcomes “holiday singers” to join them for two special musical services in December: The Christmas Portion of Handel’s Messiah on Sunday morning, December 16th, and carol settings by John Rutter on Christmas Eve at the 11:00 pm Service of Lessons and Carols.  Rehearsals for these two events begin after worship today at 11:30 in the choir room of the Church House.  All are welcome.

New Nametags!  The membership committee is in the process of revamping nametags. Our new nametag pocket chart can be found the bulletin board in the narthex.  Please pick up your nametag from this board and wear it into church each Sunday.  Not only is it wonderful to meet and greet old friends during church and at the coffee hour, it is also wonderful to meet new people and open your world to new friendship possibilities.  Many of us are not good remembering names and wearing a nametag promotes friendship and conviviality.  It is also good practice to wear a nametag as we look forward to meeting our new pastor.  He will have many names to learn!  Secondly, please sign the Friendship Pads and look at them as they come back to you.  Please make sure to seek out any visitors for a special welcome if you see there is a visitor in your row.

The annual community Interfaith Thanksgiving Service will be held tonight, at 7:00 p.m., at Alice Millar Chapel, 1870 Sheridan. (Sunday is a change from the customary Thanksgiving Eve.) The event is sponsored by Interfaith Action of Evanston. Representatives of many faiths will lead this service of prayer and thanksgiving. Guest speaker will be Dirk Ficca, Executive Director of the Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions. There will be a ritual sharing of the world's breads, with music by New Revelations Choir and a choir from Northwestern. Drop-off tables for canned goods to replenish Evanston food pantries will be at church entrances. Weekend parking is available in University lots surrounding the Chapel.

The Prelude and postlude music today is performed by three advanced students in Megan Cahill's violin program: Katerina Economou, Matthew Nelson, and Brigid Schabes. We thank them for sharing their music with us this morning. The students in Megan’s program range in age from 11 to 16 and have all been playing the violin for at least six years.  Megan Cahill began her Suzuki Violin Program in Evanston in the summer of 2006.  The program has grown to include 18 students, ranging in age from four years old to adult.
