Remembrance Sunday
Featuring Schubert's Mass in G
November 4, 2007, 10 am
The Chancel Choir and string quintet will present Franz Peter Schubert's Mass in G during morning worship. This is the shortest and simplest of Schubert's seven masses, intended for performance in his parish church in Lichenthal.
About the setting of Mass in G
The chamber instrumentation for string is a beautifully transparent setting. The Mass setting is restrained and conservative, reminiscent of Mozart or early Beethoven. It contains those portions of the Ordinary of the Mass that are most frequently set to music - Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei - in the original Latin.
