Announcements

Welcome to First Congregational Church!  Today on reformation Sunday, we are rededicating the Church and Church House on their 80th Anniversary.  We offer a special welcome to friends who have come to be with us today.  We invite everyone to the Church House immediately after this service for a reception, a Sunday School open house and a historical display.

The Sunday Forum begins our series on The Gift of the Whale; Community as Steward, (that runs through November 18th) which will meet in the Cora Brown parlor this week.

If you are visiting today with children, please join us for Sunday School beginning after Disciple Dialogue with a recessional by the children to our Church House, three doors away.  We also have an infant room, with a changing table, crib and comfortable rocker on the lower level.  If you need those facilities during worship, an usher will be happy to escort you.

This morning’s bulletin cover, Call to Worship, Litany, hymns, anthems, and organ prelude were part of the dedication services 80 years ago this month.  The organ prelude is known as the “St. Anne Fugue” because it is based on the hymn tune which we associate with the text “Our God, Our Help in Ages Past.”

You are welcomed and seated today by John Betts, Eric Erickson Jean Herbert and Bob Phelps.

The lay reader today is Patty Sprague. The greeter today is Joyce Phelps. Our Minute for Stewardship speaker today is Alex Doty.

Pledge Update – Week 1

To date we have received 10 pledges totaling $33,260.

The chancel flowers are given by Joyce and Bob Phelps in celebration of Halloween.

Today’s Coffee Hour is hosted by the Sunday School.

Sunday Afternoon Book Discussion Group  - The next meeting of the Sunday Afternoon Book Discussion Group will be on November 4, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. in the Brown Parlor.  Cherie Weil will lead a discussion of the book, Water for Elephants, by Sara Gruen.  You are welcome to join us for this informal book discussion.

Joys and Concerns:  Congratulations to Glennis and Barry Lundberg on the birth of their grandson, Asa, who was born last week. Please inform the pastor or church office if we have missed anyone.

Magazines needed - Please save your old magazines.  There is a box in the narthex for the donation of magazines for the Warming Center.  The Warming Center is our weekly, Thursday afternoon hospitality center for the homeless which is open from November through March.  Our guests enjoy reading news, sports, and entertainment.  Reader’s Digest is always a favorite.
