Sunday Afternoon Book Discussion Group  - The next meeting of the Sunday Afternoon Book Discussion Group will be on November 4, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. in the Brown Parlor.  Cherie Weil will lead a discussion of the book, Water for Elephants, by Sara Gruen.  You are welcome to join us for this informal book discussion.

Joys and Concerns: Please inform the pastor or church office if we have missed anyone.

A Volunteer Opportunity--Hands-on help for one of our Benevolence Recipients!  Evanston Day Nursery would like us to join with  other volunteers for some fall clean-up and spruce-up activities at their facility.  We'll hope to carpool over together from the church. Please sign up today during coffee hour.  Come for all or part of the time:  8:00 a.m.-- noon, Saturday, October 27th; contact Lyn Page for further information, (847) 475-3943 or lpage@oakton.edu.

Magazines needed - Please save your old magazines.  There is a box in the narthex for the donation of magazines for the Warming Center.  The Warming Center is our weekly, Thursday afternoon hospitality center for the homeless which is open from November through March.  Our guests enjoy reading news, sports, and entertainment.  Reader’s Digest is always a favorite.

Hilda’s Place Volunteers Needed - On the first Saturday night of each month, our church is responsible for providing dinner for the 30 or so residents of Hilda's Place, a homeless shelter located in the basement of the Lake Street Church.  This is a rewarding and fun activity, and much appreciated by the residents.  It's a great service opportunity for a family or two or three people who might like to work together.  If you are able to help out, please call Elaine Frangedakis at 847-332-2618 or email at mcfran@ameritech.net

This morning’s service features the music by the celebrated German composer, pianist, and conductor Felix Mendelssohn (1809 – 1847). His works include symphonies, concertos, piano and organ music, chamber music, and works for chorus and orchestra, including the oratorio Elijah which depicts events in the life of the Biblical prophet Elijah based on texts from 1 Kings and 2 Kings from the Hebrew Scriptures.
