ANNOUNCEMENTS

You are welcomed and seated today by Nancy Anderson, John Betts, Eric Erickson and Jean Herbert..

The greeter today is Cherie Weil.

The chancel flowers are given by Sheran Fiedler in honor of her mother Eunice Fiedler.

Today we welcome Rev. Calvin S. Morris, PhD., Director and CEO of Community Renewal Society to our pulpit. We thank him for his message.

Joys and Concerns: Please inform the pastor or church office if we have missed anyone.

Donating chancel flowers is a wonderful way to honor someone special in your life, commemorate a special occasion (perhaps a birthday or anniversary), to say thank you, or to honor the memory of a friend or family member. The chancel flowers sit on the communion table in the chancel. The flowers cost $40. Donations are acknowledged in the Sunday bulletin. For more information contact the church office at 847 864-8332.

This morning’s service for World Communion Sunday features the music of Paul Halley. Halley, born in 1952 in England, was Organist and Choirmaster at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City from 1977 to 1989. During his tenure at the Cathedral, he also earned four Grammy awards for his work as a performer with the Paul Winter Consort. The prelude is a fantasia based on three traditional Celtic melodies, and the offertory brings together the music of three languages (Greek, Sotho, and English) and combines them in a truly ecumenical experience for World Communion Sunday.

A Volunteer Opportunity - Hands-on help for one of our Benevolence Recipients! Evanston Day Nursery would like our help for some fall clean-up and spruce-up activities at their facility. Bring your energy and enthusiasm to church and we'll carpool over to: Evanston Day Nursery from 8:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 27th. Contact Lyn Page, Benevolence/Outreach Committee, if you'd like to come for just part of the time, or for more information.(847) 475-3943 or lpage@oakton.edu.

Sunday Afternoon Book Discussion Group - The first meeting of the Sunday Afternoon Book Discussion Group will be on Sunday, October 14, 2007. Our first book is Reading Judas: The Gospel of Judas and the Shaping of Christianity by Elaine Pagels at 4:00 pm in the church house. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend these informal meetings.

Magazines needed - Please save your old magazines. Starting mid-October, there will be a box in the narthex for the donation of magazines for the Warming Center. The Warming Center is our weekly, Thursday afternoon hospitality center for the homeless which is open from November through March. Our guests enjoy reading news, sports, and entertainment. Reader’s Digest is always a favorite.

Hilda’s Place Volunteers Needed - On the first Saturday night of each month, our church is responsible for providing dinner for the 30 or so residents of Hilda's Place, a homeless shelter located in the basement of the Lake Street Church. This is a rewarding and fun activity, and much appreciated by the residents. It's a great service opportunity for a family or two or three people who might like to work together. If you are able to help out, please call Elaine Frangedakis at 847-332-2618 or email at mcfran@ameritech.net.
