Welcome to First Congregational Church! We invite visitors to sign the Guest Book and join us for refreshments after worship. We also have an infant room, with a changing table, crib and comfortable rocker on the lower level. If you need those facilities during worship, an usher will be happy to escort you.
The rose in the chancel is a “peace rose.” It symbolizes our prayers for peace in a troubled world.
The chancel flowers are given by Joan and Tom Lindsey in loving memory of Joan’s sister, Janeth Harvey and Tom’s sister, Ann Lindsey.
The lay reader today is Kingsley Day.
You are welcomed and seated today by Nancy Anderson, Lacey Ogbolumani, David Ogbolumani, Andy Nelson and Nick Tucker.
The greeter this morning is Sharyn Julcher.
Several church school families will be having an after church gathering at Lee Street Beach on Sunday, August 19th.Bring your own picnic lunch & drink and something to share if you are able. You are invited to join the virtual prayer circle at First Congregational Church. It is a wonderful way to develop a richer prayer life and stay connected to the needs of those in our congregation and around us. An e-mail is sent around weekly or so with a list of people to pray for and a suggested prayer for the week. If you are interested in being part of the church's virtual prayer circle or if you have a prayer concern you would like to offer up, please send a note to joysandconcerns@gmail.com. We want to respect privacy so we ask that you seek a person's permission before offering up their needs for prayer. We look forward to hearing from you! Pam Daniels, Prayer Circle Coordinator
Join the Parade. The CROP Walk Volunteers are making a small float to pull in the walk this fall. We are working on the papier mache and decorations each Sunday this summer after worship. The theme every year is We Walk Because They Walk. We are making large pieces of food and one-dimensional figures of children from around the world. Our church name and LOGO will also appear. A young man from Inter-Faith Action Council will be helping. You don't have to be an artist! Parents to help with construction activities anddesign, etcwould be very welcome. Contact Laura Wilson with your ideas and Elmer’s glue.
Think Green! Check out our big, green frog in the Narthex for tips on conservation. How about using cloth bags instead of plastic when you go out shopping? Free tote bags with the frog.Faith and Public Issues
This coming week Rev. Roghair will be on vacation. Rev. Nan Conser will be back in the pulpit next Sunday (August 19).
Thanks to Megan Cahill for sharing her music with us today. Today’s prelude and postlude were composed by Ralph Vaughan Williams(1872 – 1958) who was one of England’s most important composers from the beginning of the 1920s until the start of the 1950s. As a classical music composer, he is best known for his nine symphonies as well as numerous orchestral pieces and choral works. His influence also extends to popular music in the form of a handful of notable film scores dating between 1941 and 1948 and scholarly work in the field of British folk songs. The prelude (Hymn # 534) and postlude (Hymn # 376) are two movements from Vaughan Williams’ collection titled “Three Preludes on Welsh Hymn Tunes”.
