ANNOUNCEMENTS
The rose in the chancel is a “peace rose.” It symbolizes our prayers for peace in a troubled world.
The chancel flowers are given by John Betts in loving memory of his wife Mary Jane (Dede).
The lay reader today is Jean Herbert.
You are welcomed and seated today by Nancy Anderson, John Betts, Eric Erickson, Jean Herbert and Sandy Whiteley.
The greeter this morning is Sharyn Julcher.
Thank you to Mark and Pam Daniels for hosting today’s coffee hour. Thank you to Barb Ferguson for hosting last week.
Thanks to Kingsley Day and Gary Hardesty for sharing their music with us today.
Today’s service features music by German composer Johannes Brahms (1833-1897), one of the great masters of the 19th century. His works include symphonies, concertos, chamber music, piano music, songs, and choral music, including the celebrated Ein Deutches Requiem (A German Requiem). Two of today's selections, the A Major Intermezzo and the slow movement from the F Minor Clarinet Sonata, were written in the last four years of his life.
Joys and Concerns: We remember Amy Colton and Julie Doyle and their families on the death of their mother, Betty Jean Boyle. Our thoughts are with Dorothy Nix who is ill at home, and Robert Grant who is ill at home. Our known homebound members include: Kay Clark, Virginia France, Bud Goff, John Hands, Dixie Hoffman, Esther McGinnis, Irv Newgren, Franklin and Pat Snyder and Nina Stevens. Please inform the pastor or church office if we have missed anyone.
You are invited to join the virtual prayer circle at First Congregational Church. It is a wonderful way to develop a richer prayer life and stay connected to the needs of those in our congregation and around us. An e-mail is sent around weekly or so with a list of people to pray for and a suggested prayer for the week. If you are interested in being part of the church's virtual prayer circle or if you have a prayer concern you would like to offer up, please send a note to joysandconcerns@gmail.com. We want to respect privacy so we ask that you seek a person's permission before offering up their needs for prayer. We look forward to hearing from you! Pam Daniels, Prayer Circle Coordinator.
Join the Parade. The CROP Walk Volunteers are making a small float to pull in the walk this fall. We are working on the papier mache and decorations each Sunday this summer after worship. The theme every year is We Walk Because They Walk. We are making large pieces of food and one-dimensional figures of children from around the world. Our church name and LOGO will also appear. A young man from Inter-Faith Action Council will be helping. You don't have to be an artist! Parents to help with construction activities and design, etc would be very welcome. Contact Laura Wilson with your ideas and Elmer’s glue.
Think Green! Check out our big, green frog in the Narthex for tips on conservation. How about using cloth bags instead of plastic when you go out shopping? Free tote bags with the frog. Faith and Public Issues
