ANNOUNCEMENTS
The rose in the chancel is a “peace rose.” It symbolizes our prayers for peace in a troubled world.
The chancel flowers are given by Lacey and Isabella Ogbolumani in celebration of David’s birthday (July 3).
Thank you to Jennifer French and Brian Connors for hosting today’s Coffee Hour.
The lay reader today is Deb Shamlin, Director of Religious Education.
You are welcomed and seated today by John Betts, Eric Erickson, Peggy Tinzmann and Cherie Weil.
Thank you to Rev. Kafader for being with us this morning. The Rev. Dr. Shawn Kafader is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ. He is currently serving on the staff of Friendship Village of Schaumburg as Chaplain. He and his family make their home in Mount Prospect, Illinois.
Thanks to Lyn Page for sharing her music with us today.
Today’s musical selections feature the work of American composer David N. Johnson (1922 – 1987). Johnson was head of the music department of St. Olaf College, organist at Syracuse University, and organist and choir director of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Phoenix, before becoming professor of music at Arizona State University. He published approximately four hundred compositions for organ and choir. The text for “The Lone, Wild Bird” is set to the American folk melody “Prospect” and can be found at #320 in our hymnal.
First Congregational has been offered the opportunity to have a booth at Evanston's sidewalk days July 27th to 29th. We need a volunteer to spearhead the effort, persons who would be willing to develop displays and handouts, and folks who could work the booth on those days. This is a wonderful chance bring our congregation beyond the church walls. Please be in touch about how you can help by responding to Beth Babbitt at 847-864-6959 or via e-mail at tomandbethborst@yahoo.com
